The official trailer for Netflix’s new German Original series, Tribes of Europa, is intense. Take a looksy.
The trailer for Tribes of Europa looks a bit like The Rain meets Mad Max. There’s been a global disaster, society has been fractured and exists now as warring microstates, and siblings are on a perilous journey.
Series showrunner and creator Philip Koch said: “Tribes of Europa is a tribute to the science fiction genre. The show depicts an exciting world that gets back on its feet and, in the end, a hopeful new beginning for the continent.”
In Tribes of Europa, three siblings’ adventures begin in a futuristic Europe, now called Europa, that has gone through a mysterious global catastrophe.
According to Moses (Oliver Masucci, Dark), a salvager and loner:
“In December 2029, technology suddenly started going crazy. Bam! Lights out and darkness. That was it. The Middle Ages.”
Forty-five years later, in 2074, Europa is split into microstates, people live in tribes, and war rages between the tribes.
Says Lord Varvara (Melika Foroutan, The Weissensee Saga) of the Crows:
“Now the Tribes are ruling the continent, Europa. They bathe in blood to gain dominance.”
Not all of the tribes, though, are of the bloodthirsty sort. The Origines tribe is peaceful, but they fight to defend themselves. Amongst the Origines are three siblings — Kiano (Emilio Sakraya, 4 Blocks), Liv (Henriette Confurius, Line of Separation), and Elja (David Ali Rashed, O Beautiful Night) — who get separated during an attack.
Says Liv:
“We thought we could live in peace forever. But we were wrong. My family is somewhere out there. I’d do anything to get my family back.”
Left on their own and to their own devices as they are forced to forge their own paths , Liv, Kiano, and Elja are united by their fight for survival, the irrepressible will to reunite their family, and their hope for a life in freedom.
States David Voss (Robert Finster, Freud) from the Crimson Republic:
“Sometimes, it takes an outrageous deed to steer history back on the right track.”
A production of W&B Television (4 Blocks, Line of Separation), the six-episode series is executive produced by Quirin Berg (Dark), Max Wiedemann (Pagan Peak), and Maximilian Vetter, as well as series creator, showrunner, lead writer, and co-director Philip Koch (Tatort: Munich). The writing team includes Jana Burbach (Bad Banks) and Benjamin Seiler (8 Days), and Florian Baxmeyer is the director of the third, fourth, and fifth episodes.
Tribes of Europa, a Netflix Original series, premieres globally on February 19, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
