Streaming bundle AMC+ has acquired the multilingual (English, Finnish, Swedish) international crime thriller Cold Courage for audiences in the US.
Based on the first title in the award-winning and best-selling “Studio” series of novels by Finnish journalist Pekka Hiltunen, Cold Courage follows two women as they collide during a series of murders in present-day London.
Mari (Pihla Viitala, Deadwind, Arctic Circle), a fierce psychologist, and Lia (Sofia Pekkari, The Sandhamn Murders, Arne Dahl), a shy graphic artist, are drawn together through “the Studio,” a clandestine group of like-minded people operating off the grid, dedicated to righting the wrongs of the powerful, the influential, and the corrupt. For Mari, her obsession is to stop the meteoric rise of a dangerous, charismatic politician. To do this she needs an unknown face to infiltrate his campaign — and Lia would be perfect.
In a role that, for Whovians, is reminiscent of his character in Doctor Who, BAFTA nominee John Simm (Life on Mars, Prey) plays populist politician Arthur Fried in the eight-episode thriller.
Costars include Caroline Goodall (The White Princess), Arsher Ali (Line of Duty), Jakob Eklund (Johan Falk), Peter Coonan (Love/Hate), Matteo Simoni (Thieves of the Wood), Pääru Oja (Vikings: Valhalla), Charlotte Timmers (Hotel Beau Séjour), Antti Reini (Private Eye Vares), and Elmer Bäck (Idiomatic).
Also featuring in the series are Keith McErlean (Trivia), Aislín McGuckin (Outlander), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Corp + Anam), Jussi Nikkilä (Hooked), Jeroen Perceval (De Dag), and Jurgen Delnaet (Amigos).
The series was adapted for the screen by BAFTA-nominated David Joss Buckley (Hinterland) and Brendan Foley (The Riddle), and directed by Agneta Fagerstrom (Wallander) and Kadir Ferati Balci (Amigos).
Cold Courage is slated to premiere in the US with its first three episodes on Thursday, March 11, exclusively on AMC+, the ad-free streaming bundle available on Prime Video Channels and other digital content providers.
