Netflix has set the release date for Seasons One, Two, and Three of the award-winning political drama Borgen on the international streaming service.
The first three seasons of Borgen, an International Emmy® Award nominee and a BAFTA TV Award winner, used to be the complete series. Then Netflix announced in April that, in partnership with DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation), the hit political drama will return with a new season.
It will be a while until the new episodes arrive on both DR and Netflix, but the first 30 episodes, gripping from start to finish, will be available for your binge-watching pleasure starting Tuesday, September 1st. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
If you’ve never seen Borgen before, or even if you have, you’re in for a treat.
The series follows Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen, The Accident, Westworld, 1864), a wife, mother, and politician who becomes the first female Prime Minister of Denmark. Interwoven with her story is that of journalist Katrine Fønsmark (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Greyzone, Vinyl, Game of Thrones), whose career intersects with Birgitte’s from the outside and later the inside.
Other major characters in the first three seasons include Phillip Christensen (Mikael Birkkjær, The Bridge, The Killing), Birgitte’s husband; Kasper Juul (Pilou Asbæk, Game of Thrones, 1864), her head of communications; and Torben Friis (Søren Malling, Below the Surface, The Killing), a TV news editor and Katrine’s boss.
