HBO announced today the new premiere date for HBO Europe’s Spanish drama Patria in the US, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Patria, which had been slated for release in mid-May, will now premiere day and date across HBO Europe and HBO Latin America territories, as well as in the US, starting Monday, September 27. New episodes will be released weekly.
In the US, Patria will be available to stream on HBO Now, HBO Go, and on HBO via HBO Max and other partners’ platforms, including HBO on Amazon Channels, beginning September 27, as well as on HBO Latino beginning September 30.
The series will be available in HBO Europe’s 21 territories, and in more than 40 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, where the show will be broadcast on HBO and available for streaming on HBO GO — all starting September 27.
With a narrative that spans more than three decades, Patria tells a story of the Spanish Basque country threatened by the terrorism of the leftist separatist group ETA, as seen through the eyes of two families divided by the violent conflict.
On the day ETA announces a ceasefire, Bittori (Elena Irureta, The Time in Between) visits the cemetery where her husband Txato, who was murdered by the terrorists, is buried. She tells him she’s decided to return home to the village where they lived together to try and get closure.
Bittori’s presence in the village causes chaos — enraging Miren (Ane Gabarain, 800 Bullets), her neighbor, once a close friend, and the mother of Joxe Mari, an imprisoned terrorist and the probable killer of Txato. The rift between the two women and their deeply held convictions make trying to forget impossible. The question is, will they be able to forgive in a community shattered by political fanaticism?
Based on the bestselling novel Patria by Fernando Aramburu, the eight-episode series is created and written by Aitor Gabilondo (Unauthorized Living), and directed by Felix Viscarret (Four Seasons in Havana) and Óscar Pedraza (Captain Alatriste). Miguel Salvat, Steve Matthews, and Antony Root are the Executive Producers for HBO Europe. Patria was produced by Alea Media for HBO Europe, with participation from HBO Latin America.
