It’s April 1st, but no fooling — three more Euro TV series have returned to the US with new seasons.
There’s never a dull moment in Euro TV land, so here are a few more shows for you — on top of the ones in yesterday’s piece about new Euro TV program premieres this month.
The Restaurant (Vår tid är nu) (Sweden)
The first episode of the second season of this award-winning period drama (one of my favorite Euro TV premieres of 2018) became available in the US last Friday, March 29. Opening in December 1955, it finds the restaurant doing brisk business but personal dramas driving wedges between the members of the Lowander family. As the series progress, love will bloom, high-risk plans will be set in motion, and dark secrets will come to light.
The series stars Hedda Stiernstedt (Black Lake), Charlie Gustafsson (Thicker Than Water), Adam Lundgren (Don’t Ever Wipe Tears Without Gloves), Suzanne Reuter (Modus), Mattias Nordkvist (Missing), Josefin Neldén (Alex), Rasmus Troedsson (Gentlemen & Gangsters), and Anna Bjelkerud (Jordskott).
The remaining nine new episodes of The Restaurant: Season 2 will premiere in the US on Fridays through May 31 on Sundance Now and Sundance Now on Amazon.
Golden Life (Aranyélet) (Hungary)
This Hungarian drama’s third and final season became available to stateside viewers today. Following on from Season 2, which is loosely based on the storylines and sub-plots in the first two seasons of the Finnish series Easy Living (Helppo elämä), this last season finds members of the Miklósi family facing more challenges while attempting to maintain appearances — from the power- and control-hungry matriarch, Janka (Eszter Ónodi, Houdini), running for mayor of a small town, to her punk of a son, Mark (Renátó Olasz, X – The eXploited), plotting the murder of someone quite close to the family.
Also starring Szabolcs Thuróczy (Budapest Noir), Laura Döbrösi (The Last Kingdom), and Zsolt Anger (Red Sparrow), Golden Life: Season 3 is now streaming on HBO, HBO on Amazon, HBO Go, and HBO Now.
Resurrection: Ertugrul (Dirilis: Ertugrul) (Turkey)
The fourth season of this popular Turkish historical drama arrived in the US today. It opens directly after the events in the Season 3 finale, when it appeared that Ertugrul was killed. Members of the Kayi clan are mourning his death, but he isn’t really dead. So get ready for more treachery, power plays, and murders as the story of the father of the man who founded the Ottoman Empire continues.
Resurrection: Ertugrul: Season 4 is now streaming in the US on Netflix.
4/3/19 UPDATE: For some reason, Season 4 was up on 4/1 but is no longer on Netflix US. I’ll post another update when it is available again. Sorry for the inconvenience.
