Filming has started in Odda, Norway, on Ragnarok, the new Netflix Original drama series produced by Danish prodco SAM Productions.
Set in the small, fictitious town of Edda, situated in the midst of grand, breathtaking Norwegian nature, Ragnarok is a coming-of-age drama that builds on and contributes to a new angle on Norse mythology.
The story revolves around the inhabitants of Edda — perhaps not all that they claim to be — who experience a drastically changing world where the poles are melting, winters are warm, and downpours are violent. Some might say we’re headed for yet another Ragnarok. Unless someone intervenes in time…
The main cast includes David Stakston (Skam) as 19-year-old Magne, Jonas Strand Gravli (22 July) as 27-year-old Laurits, Theresa Frostad Eggesbø (Skam) as 21-year-old Saxa, Herman Tømmeraas (Semester) as 21-year-old Fjor, and Emma Bones (Home Ground) as 19-year-old Gry.
Also featuring in the Norwegian language series are Henriette Steenstrup (Lilyhammer), Odd-Magnus Williamson (Nobel), Synnøve Macody Lund (Black Widows), Line Verndal (Varg Veum), Fridtjov Såheim (Acquitted), Bjørn Sundquist (Monster), and Gísli Örn Garðarsson (Cover Story).
Ragnarok is created, written, and executive produced by BAFTA, Copenhagen TV Festival, and Robert Festival awards winner Adam Price (Borgen, Ride Upon the Storm, The Heavy Water War/The Saboteurs). He is joined on the series by executive producer and writer Simen Alsvik (Fallet), executive producer Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen (Below the Surface), and producer Stine Meldgaard Madsen (Pros and Cons).
The six-part Ragnarok will launch globally in 2020, exclusively on Netflix.
Stay tuned for updates.
