Netflix announced today that Hache, its new Spanish original series starring Adriana Ugarte and Javier Rey, will premiere globally next year.
Hache is an eight-episode, hour-long thriller series created and written by Verónica Fernández (Cuéntame, El Comisario, El Príncipe, Velvet Collection).
Inspired by real events, Hache tells the story of Helena (Adriana Ugarte, Palmeras en la nieve, El tiempo entre costuras), a woman catapulted to the heroin trafficking business in 1960s Barcelona.
Javier Rey (Fariña, Velvet) costars; no details about his character have been released yet.
The series is the first project for Weekend Studio, whose Tomás Cimadevilla and Jorge Iglesias are executive producers on Hache. They stated:
“At Weekend Studio we are very proud that our first project is a Netflix original series. Our company is committed to a global perspective and with Netflix this objective is guaranteed. We are confident that this is the first step towards a long and successful collaboration.”
And Erik Barmack, Vice President of International Originals at Netflix, said:
“We are big fans of Javier and Adriana’s work, and couldn’t be more excited to see them both in a Netflix Original series. And the world that Verónica, Tomás and Jorge have created is unique, fresh, and likely to have global appeal. We’re ready to add Hache to our growing list of Spanish series intended for global audiences.”
Hache will launch globally and exclusively on Netflix in 2019. Stay tuned for updates.
