It’s time to get happy, Euro TV fans. New episodes of the hit Swedish crime drama Maria Wern are coming, and they feature guest stars Henrik Norlén and Joakim Nätterqvist.
Filming just wrapped on two new episodes of Maria Wern, the fan-favorite Swedish mystery/crime drama starring Eva Rose as the kickboxing cop in Gotland.
Similar to the last two episodes, the new ones are not adapted from the crime novels by Swedish author Anna Jansson, but inspired by the characters in her stories. From an interview with show’s lead, Sweden’s Expressen newspaper states, “Eva Rose claims she does not get tired of the role, especially now that she has been involved in early script discussions to work out what Maria must go through.”
“I have been involved in developing the plot more around [Maria Wern’s] person,” said Eva Rose in the interview. She described her character as having “a Teflon surface” and being “rock hard,” and added that Wern is “now in a phase of her life where the dams are bursting.”
Rose also top-lined each episode’s storyline. Of the first, which was filmed on Fårö and Gotland, she commented:
“The first film is about a man who has been poisoned and dies on the Fårö ferry, and other victims follow. We also find someone who’s been trapped in a basement for many, many years, so now we’re looking for someone who has poisoned men and one that has kept someone trapped, and we try to find out why. It’s a tragic fate.”
Regarding the second, shot in Visby and Stockholm, she added:
“The police must work together and I will have new colleagues. There is someone who was killed because she knew too much about an environmental scandal. It deals with environmental toxins and lobbying, and the very strong forces who will do everything to defend their interests.”
New colleagues means new actors, one of whom is Joakim Nätterqvist, perhaps best known for his role as Arn in the film and miniseries (with extended footage) Arn: The Knight Templar, in which he starred opposite The Bridge‘s Sofia Helin. According to Maria Wern producer Martin Söder, “[Nätterqvist] will have one of the larger guest roles, which we think is great fun.”
And while Henrik Norlén (Modus, Johan Falk, Arne Dahl) wasn’t specifically mentioned in the Expressen article, Eva Rose’s behind-the-scenes photo (above) shows that he will also be guest-starring in one or both of the new Maria Wern episodes.
Stay tuned for updates.
