MHz Choice announced today the US-Canada premiere date for Paris Police 1900, the highly-anticipated French period crime drama series.
Politics, crime, and sin converge alongside the opulence of early 20th-century Paris in Paris Police 1900. Set in the City of Light during La Belle Epoque and the tumultuous time of the Dreyfus Affair in France, the series is a sweeping period crime drama that weaves the Dreyfus Affair and the growing antisemitism in the country into the backdrop of a police murder investigation.
The cast includes Jérémie Lahuerta (Iskander), Marc Barbé (Spiral), Hubert Delattre (Alexandra Ehle), Patrick d’Assumçao (The Churchmen), and Evelyn Brochu (Orphan Black).
MHz Choice will launch Paris Police 1900 in the US and Canada with the first two of eight episodes on Tuesday, September 20. New episodes will premiere singly each week thereafter.
When Antoine Jouin (Jérémie Lahuerta), a young, ambitious police inspector, delves into the murder of an unknown woman found inside a suitcase floating in the Seine, he ends up investigating more than a homicide — he uncovers state secrets and corruption.
With the rise of lawlessness from far-right antisemitic groups, retired police chief Louis Lépine (Marc Barbé) returns to duty, charged with restoring order to Paris. Lépine’s progress is an uphill battle against the anti-Semite activist and leader Jules Guérin (Hubert Delattre). (Both Lépine and Guérin are based on real historical figures.)
The police are also not all on the same side. Commissaire Puybaraud (Patrick d’Assumçao), the head of the Paris criminal investigation department, is not guided by a strictly professional moral code, and he has enlisted a dangerous web of spies, including Marguerite Steinheil (Evelyn Brochu), the former mistress to the recently-deceased president of the Republic.
As for Inspector Antoine Jouin, he ends up joining forces with unlikely allies in his pursuit of justice — and to help save France from itself.
Paris Police 1900 was created, written, and directed by Fabien Nury (The Death of Stalin), who stated:
“Its characters are reminiscent of Musketeers; facing questions of loyalty, courage and sacrifice. They are cynical from the outset but go on to risk their lives defending what’s right.”
The series is distributed by Studiocanal and previously had successful runs in France (Canal+) and the UK (BBC Four).
