Sundance Now announced today the North American premiere date for the Swedish true-crime drama limited series The Hunt for a Killer.
Based on the reportage book by Swedish journalist and crime reporter Tobias Barkman, The Hunt for a Killer (Jakten på en mördare) is a true-crime drama that follows a dedicated team of detectives and their hunt for the killer of 10-year-old Helén Nilsson — a case that shook Sweden to its core.
In March 1989, the brutal and sadistic murder of Helén in Hörby, a small town in southern Sweden, traumatized the nation. The case remained unsolved for 15 years, leaving the small community and the police force entrusted to protect it with a painful open wound.
During that time, detectives Per-Åke Åkesson (Anders Beckman, Midsommar, The Restaurant) and Monica Olhed (Lotten Roos, Wallander, The Bridge) led an investigation team that solved numerous homicides in southern Sweden and, eventually and against all the odds, found Helén’s killer.
Costars in the six-episode drama include Håkan Bengtsson (Wallander), Rasmus Troedsson (The Restaurant), and Magnus Schmitz (The Bridge).
A production of Yellow Bird Sweden AB, Sveriges Television AB and Film i Skåne AB, the series is written by Lotta Erikson (Ikon) and Helene Lindholm (Majken), and directed by Mikael Marcimain (Gentlemen & Gangsters).
The Hunt for a Killer premieres in the US and Canada in its entirety on Thursday, August 12, exclusively on Sundance Now and its digital channels, including Sundance Now on Amazon Channels and the AMC+ streaming bundle.
