Netflix announced today details about its new Swedish coming-of-age series, Young Royals.
Young Royals is about students at Hillerska, a prestigious Swedish boarding school, who are trying to find their way through life.
Leading the cast are Edvin Ryding (Gåsmamman, Miss Friman’s War), who plays Prince Wilhelm, and Pernilla August (The Investigation, The Legacy), who protrays Wilhelm’s mother, Queen Kristina. Playing his classmates are Malte Gårdinger (The Sandhamn Murders), Frida Argento (Astrid), newcomer Nikita Uggla, and FO&O band member Omar Rudberg, who makes his acting debut.
The series centers on Prince Wilhelm, who can finally explore his true self and find out what kind of life he really wants after he arrives at Hillerska. He dreams of a future filled with freedom and unconditional love, far away from his royal obligations. But when he unexpectedly becomes next in line for the throne, he must choose: love or duty.
The cast also includes Nathalie Varli, Felicia Truedsson (Anno 1790), Mimmi Cyon (The Hunters), Ingela Olsson (The Truth Will Out), Rennie Mirro (Real Humans), Livia Millhagen (Veni Vidi Vici), and David Lenneman (Trapped).
Directing Young Royals are Rojda Sekersöz (conceptual director) and Erika Calmeyer (Twin, Valkyrien). The series is created by Lisa Ambjörn, Lars Beckung, and Camilla Holter, and written by Lisa Ambjörn (head writer), Pia Gradvall, Sofie Forsman, and Tove Forsman. Lars Beckung is the Executive Producer for Nexiko, and the producers are Lisa Berggren Eyre and Martin Söder.
