Netflix announced today the global premiere date for Little Siberia, the streamer’s first feature film from Finland. Check out the official clip.

Based on the novel Little Siberia by Antti Tuomainen, a “Book of the Year” selection by The Times, the film Little Siberia (Pikku-Siperia) is set in the small village of Hurmevaara, where everyday life is shaken when a meteorite falls through the roof of a car one night. According to the mayor, the meteorite is very valuable for the future of Hurmevaara, as the village is slowly dying.
So, Joel (Eero Ritala, Shadow Lines, Roba), the village priest and veteran peacekeeper, ends up guarding it in an old museum before it gets sent to London for a detailed analysis. Still, the precious meteorite attracts a lot of attention, including from both amateur and professional criminals.
While Joel protects the meteorite from them, he also tries to unravel an even greater mystery in his own life: His wife has recently revealed that, finally, she is pregnant. It’s great news, but for Joel, not so much. Not because he doesn’t want children, but because he can’t have children due to a war injury. He just hasn’t told this to his wife…
Little Siberia, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Friday, March 21, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
Costars include Malla Malmivaara (Deadwind), Tommi Korpela (A Good Family), and Martti Suosalo (Helsinki Crimes), amongst others.
A production of SF Studios and Bufo, the film is directed by Dome Karukoski (The Beast Must Die) and written by Minna Panjanen (Next of Kin) and Dome Karukoski. The producers are Ina Sohlberg for SF Studios and Mark Lwoff and Misha Jaari for Bufo, with Jon Nohrstedt and Tim King serving as executive producers.
