Viaplay announced today the US premiere date for Who Shot Otto Mueller?, a suspenseful whodunit from Estonia. Check out the trailer.
Folks in the US haven’t had the opportunity to watch many television shows from Estonia. All but one of the few that have screened here (that I know of) are no longer available, so I’m glad to see that we’re getting another one soon.
A Best International Series nominee at the 2022 Geneva International Film Festival, Who Shot Otto Mueller? revolves around the murder of Otto Mueller (Jaan Rekkor, Berlin Station), a celebrated businessman and ex-Soviet wrestler who meets a grisly end on his 65th birthday. Given who he was and what he’s done, the police are not short of suspects who had motive to off the guy, from Otto’s youngest son, a once-promising musician, to his ambitious mistress and distant wife.
With this murder, Detectives Agnes Maramaa (Doris Tislar, Lioness) and Gabriel Vanem (Tambet Tuisk, The Day of the Jackal) are thrust into their first high-profile case together. These two have just become partners, and the investigation quickly tests their new relationship.
As they delve deeper into Otto’s complex family dynamics, dark truths about the successful and powerful man who once killed a wolf with his bare hands gradually start to come to light, as long-buried secrets get revealed while personal boundaries begin to blur. With every new revelation, the detectives’ grasp on the truth weakens and their personal stakes in the case grow higher.
Who Shot Otto Mueller?, a Viaplay Original, premieres in the US on Thursday, February 13, exclusively on Viaplay on Prime Video Channels, as well as other Viaplay partner channels.
Directed by award-winning director René Vilbre and written by Birk Rohelend, the eight-episode series costars Märt Avandi (The Fencer), Mait Malmsten (Ice), Karmel Naudre (The Invisible Fight), Liina Tennosaar (Demons), Hilje Murel (Kalev), Evelin Võigemast (Pank), Tiina Tauraite (Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway), and Theodor Tabor (The Invisible Fight).
