Netflix has set the global premiere date for Cassandra, a new German sci-fi drama thriller series about a smart home that is too smart.
Every day, folks (nearly) everywhere are asking (telling, more than likely) the likes of Alexa and Siri for the weather forecast, homework help, etc., while household robotics vacuum floors, mow the lawn, serve as companions, and more.
In the new German series, Cassandra, the robot has a name, Cassandra, and it looks and sounds like the actress who voices it: Lavinia Wilson (Berlin Legal, The Billion Dollar Code, Deutschland 86/89). Cassandra, which sees all, hears all, and, for all intents and purposes, is everywhere, is also sentient, with a mind and thoughts of her own.
Cassandra, an electronic home assistant, is a part of Germany’s oldest smart home, which has remained empty since its owners died under mysterious circumstances more than fifty years ago. In the present day, when Samira and her family move into the house, Cassandra awakens from her decades-long slumber. However, the family is unaware that the reactivated system is no harmless household helper. Cassandra has very specific ideas about how things should run, and she won’t tolerate any slip-ups.
Developed in the 1970s to care for a family, Cassandra has remained out of commission since the deaths of the house’s former residents. Now, Cassandra senses a second chance, one where she can be something more than a fairy godmother who keeps everything running smoothly. Cassandra comes to see herself as an equal member of the family, and she has a single mission: to use every single resource at her disposal to ensure she is never left alone again.
Cassandra, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Thursday, February 6, 2025, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The cast of the six-part series includes Mina Tander (Berlin Station), Michael Klammer (Sam – A Saxon), Franz Hartwig (Charité), Mary Tölle, Joshua Kantara (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Elias Grünthal (Tatort), and Filip Schnack (The Roots of Evil), amongst others.
Produced by Rat Pack Filmproduktion GmbH, the series is written and directed by Benjamin Gutsche (Arthur’s Law), produced by Eva Stadler and Christian Becker, and executive produced by Amara Palacios.
