Netflix has set the global premiere date for 1992, a new mystery-crime thriller limited series from Spain.
Like the little chestnut man figure left at crime scenes in the Danish series The Chestnut Man, another figurine is central to the story in the Spanish series 1992. Here, the Curro doll — the iconic mascot of Seville’s Expo ’92 — plays a similarly macabre role.
Set in the titular year, 1992 follows Amparo (Marian Alvárez, The Unit, The Silent War), a widow whose husband died in a mysterious explosion. As she searches for answers with help from Richi (Fernando Valdivielso, Fanático, Sky High), an alcoholic security guard and ex-cop, more murders are happening around her. They all follow the same pattern: victims are burned and next to their charred remains is a Curro doll.
1992, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Friday, December 13, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
Costars in the limited series include Paz Vega (Kaleidoscope) and Carlos Santos (The Time in Between), amongst others.
A production of Pokeepsie Films for Netflix, 1992 is directed by Álex de la Iglesia (30 Coins, The Oxford Murders), who created the series with Jorge Guerricaechevarría (30 Coins, Gangs of Galicia), based on a script by Pablo Tébar (Bandidos) and Jorge Valdano (Headless Chickens).
