The Italian true-crime drama limited series, This Is Not Hollywood: Avetrana, is set for its US and global premiere.
Based on the book Sarah: La ragazza di Avetrana by Flavia Piccinni and Carmine Gazzanni, This Is Not Hollywood: Avetrana (Avetrana: Qui non è Hollywood) is about one of the best-known and most widely-covered criminal cases in Italy: the disappearance (and ultimately murder) of Sarah Scazzi in the town of Avetrana in 2010.
As told through the eyes of people in Sarah’s life, the story begins when fifteen-year-old Sarah (Federica Pala, Don Matteo) vanishes without a trace on August 26, 2010. At first blush, it looks like an innocent escape, but it isn’t. This throws the residents of Avetrana into turmoil, especially her cousin, Sabrina Misseri (Giulia Perulli, Il sesso degli angeli).
While the community searches for Sarah, some amongst them take full advantage of the media that have converged on Avetrana to cover her disappearance and later murder.
This Is Not Hollywood: Avetrana, a Hulu Original Series, premieres in the US on Friday, October 25, exclusively on Hulu. A Disney+ Original in international markets, the limited series debuts globally on the same date on Disney+.
Costars in the five-episode true-crime drama include Vanessa Scalera (Imma Tataranni) as Cosima Serrano Spagnolo, Sabrina’s mother and Sarah’s aunt, and Paolo De Vita (Fog and Crimes) as Michele Misseri, Sabrina’s father and Cosima’s husband.
Also featuring in the series are Imma Villa (My Brilliant Friend), Anna Ferzetti (Rocco Schiavone), and Giancarlo Commare (Paradise), amongst others.
