Netflix announced today the launch date for the highly-anticipated new Swedish true-crime drama series The Helicopter Heist (Helikopterrånet).
Based on actual events, action thriller series The Helicopter Heist tells the story of the meticulous planning, ingenuity, and nerve that went into pulling off one of the most daring crimes in history. Going far beyond anything previously told about this notorious event, viewers get to see how it might have happened.
On an early September morning in 2009, eyes from around the world turn to an inconspicuous Stockholm suburb, where a helicopter has landed on the roof of the country’s safest cash depot. Except it isn’t, because the police can only watch as the robbers disappear, taking with them several million dollars. Even more surprising (at least these days): not a single shot is fired.
The Helicopter Heist, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Friday, November 22, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
Starring in the eight-episode series are Mahmut Suvakci (Deliver Me, Top Dog), Ardalan Esmaili (Snabba Cash, Rebecka Martinsson), and Iskra Kostic (Riding in Darkness, The Restaurant), along with Dejan Milacic, Erik Svedberg-Zelman (Toppen), Vic Carmen Sonne (The Kingdom), Johanna Hedberg (First Responders), and Wim Elfwencrona.
Based on the novel The Helicopter Heist by Jonas Bonnier, the series is created and written by Ronnie Sandahl (Borg vs. McEnroe), and directed by conceptual director Daniél Espinosa (Easy Money), Jonas Alexander Arnby (Darkness: Those Who Kill), and Anna Zachrisson (The Restaurant).
A production of B-Reel Films, The Helicopter Heist is executive produced by Ulf Synnerholm, Fredrik Heinig, Ronnie Sandahl, Niclas Salomonsson, and Jonas Bonnier, with Johannes Åhlund producing.
