Following on from the events in Season 4, Season 5 finds Deputy Police Commissioner Rocco Schiavone (Marco Giallini) doing what he always does: indulge in a spliff or three at the office and work cases to the bone to escape his profound sense of emptiness. Yet this time around, he also starts to doubt the few certainties he always had — realizing that his life in Aosta, which he once hated, now feels like his only refuge.

But further introspection will have to wait, as Rocco must investigate a case he thought he could avoid by moving the body of dead man, supposedly found on the Italian side of the Italian-French border, over to the French side. In another case, he leaves the body of the victim, an art history professor and expert in Leonardo da Vinci found killed in her apartment, alone. But it is the discovery of another murder victim’s body by him and Prosecutor Baldi (Filippo Dini) that puts Schiavone in the hot seat.

In other goings-on, Rocco is concerned that his sidekick, Italo (Ernesto D’Argenio), is still in the throes of his addiction, and learns the secret that Deruta (Massimiliano Caprara), one half of the “Laurel and Hardy” cop duo, has been keeping from everyone. Rocco also gets his longtime friends from Rome, Brizio (Tullio Sorrentino) and Furio (Mirko Frezza), to help him with a case. And last but definitely not least, the final member of the friends’ fractured foursome, Sebastiano Carucci (Francesco Acquaroli), reappears in Rocco’s life.

Rocco Schiavone: Ice Cold Murders: Season 5 premieres in the US and Canada on Friday, March 1, exclusively on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel and the Walter Presents digital channels.

Returning cast members also include Christian Ginepro as Inspector D’Intino (the other half of “Laurel and Hardy”), Massimo Olcese as Police Commissioner Costa, Gino Nardella as Inspector Casella, Claudia Vismara as former detective Caterina Rispoli, Massimo Reale as medical examiner Fumagalli, Alberto Lo Porto as junior Inspector Scipioni, Carlo Ponti di Sant’Angelo as Rocco’s young neighbor, Gabriele, Valeria Solarino as journalist Sandra Buccellato, Adamo Dionisi as criminal Enzo Baiocchi, Anna Bellato as Gabriele’s mother, Cecilia, and Daniele Nuccetelli as Undersecretary Riccardo Mastrodomenico.

By the way, Season 6 of Rocco Schiavone is going into production soon. Yay!
