The highly-anticipated US launch of Viaplay, the premium Nordic streaming service from Nordic Entertainment Group AB (NENT Group), happens on December 15, 2021.
When Viaplay launches in the US, the premium Nordic streaming service will offer viewers a unique line-up of top-class Nordic entertainment, including US exclusives of award-winning Viaplay Originals and high-quality acquired films and series from one of the world’s most successful creative regions.
Viaplay will be available initially as an add-on subscription on Comcast entertainment platforms, including the Xfinity X1 internet/TV service, the Xfinity Flex OTT internet TV service, and the recently announced XClass TV. The subscription will cost $4.99 per month after the seven-day free trial. Viaplay intends to launch a direct-to-consumer app in the US in due course.
At launch, Viaplay will offer more than 1,100 hours of premium Nordic programming, both new and classic, with a focus on thrillers, drama, and young adult content. The streaming service will have at least one premiere every week, with a plan to release at least 60 Originals in 2022.

Viaplay Originals
Viewers can look forward to watching thrillers, including Partisan from Sweden, which stars Fares Fares (Chernobyl) and won the Best Series award at Canneseries 2020, and the Edgar Award-nominated Wisting from Norway; dramas, including Love Me (Älska mig), an awesome series from Sweden currently being remade by Warner Bros. Australia, and Pørni, a Norwegian series starring Henriette Steenstrup (Ragnarok); and hit young adult shows. including Delete Me, Two Sisters, A Class Apart, and Threesome.
Third-party Nordic films and series
These include acclaimed titles such as Charter, a drama starring Ane Dahl Torp (Home Ground), and Sweden’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 2021 Oscars®; Exit, a Norwegian drama with a top-notch cast and the winner of the International Panorama prize at Series Mania 2019; Scandinavian mystery-crime drama series Snow Angels (Snöänglar); Swedish crime drama Thin Blue Line (Tunna blå linjen); Danish thriller series Grow; Swedish historical drama miniseries A Royal Secret (En Kunglig Affär); Danish historical drama feature Into the Darkness (De forbandede år); Nordic crime drama series Liberty; Journal 64, the Danish feature adaptation of the fourth novel in Jussi Adler-Olsen’s “Department Q”crime novel series, starring Nikolaj Lie Kaas (The Killing) and Fares Fares; and Danish drama The Legacy, amongst many others.
Also available at launch is an array of exclusive documentary series, with more to come.
All Viaplay content in the US will have English subtitles.

The launch of Viaplay in the US caps a year of NENT Group rolling out Viaplay to more countries in Europe, including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland — bringing the streamer’s global footprint to ten countries (the others being Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden).
NENT Group’s plans include launching Viaplay in at least six more countries by the end of 2023, starting with the Netherlands on March 1, 2022, and the UK during the second half of next year, followed by Canada, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
