Netflix announced today that filming is in progress in the Czech Republic on All Quiet on the Western Front, the new wartime film from award-winning director Edward Berger.
Based on the best-selling 1928 novel of the same name by journalist and war veteran Erich Maria Remarque (which was adapted into the 1930 double Oscar®-winning film), All Quiet on the Western Front centers on a young German soldier’s terrifying experiences and distress on the western front during World War I.
Directed by Emmy® nominee Edward Berger (Patrick Melrose, Deutschland 83), the Netflix Film has been shooting in Prague since March and will continue through May.
Said Berger:
“This German world bestseller is able to convey the inhuman terror of war perhaps more impressively than any other literary work. For me, creating its first German film adaptation is one of the most exciting challenges of all.”
The cast of All Quiet on the Western Front includes Felix Kammerer as Paul Bäumer, and Albrecht Schuch (Bad Banks), Aaron Hilmer (The Last Word), Moritz Klaus (Phoenixsee), and Edin Hasanovic as Paul’s schoolmates. Also in the film are Daniel Brühl (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Devid Striesow (8 Days), and Andreas Döhler (The Heavy Water War), amongst others.
Produced by Malte Grunert (Donna Leon’s Commissario Brunetti), the film is written by Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell.
All Quiet on the Western Front is expected to premiere globally in the second half of 2022.
Stay tuned for updates.
