Netflix announced today the worldwide premiere date for suspense thriller The Innocent, its newest Original series from Spain.
Marking the latest collaboration between Netflix and best-selling author Harlan Coben, The Innocent, a Netflix Original series, premieres globally on Friday, April 30, exclusively on Netflix.
As with others of Coben’s works that have been adapted into Netflix Original series under his deal with the streaming service, including The Stranger, Safe, and The Woods, his best-selling suspense thriller novel The Innocent (El inocente) is the source material for the new miniseries.
The story centers on Mateo and Olivia, a married couple who will have to rebuild their lives for the second time after receiving some disturbing and surprising news. Starring as Mateo and Olivia as Mario Casas (The Paramedic, The Occupant, The Invisible Guest) and Aura Garrido (What the Future Holds, The Ministry of Time, Stockholm).
One night nine years ago, Mateo tried to break up a fight and ended up a killer. Now he’s an ex-con who is starting from scratch and taking nothing for granted. His wife, Olivia, is pregnant, and the two of them are about to get the house of their dreams. But a shocking and inexplicable call from Olivia’s cell phone while she’s on a business trip unsettles Mat, so he sets off a frantic race to discover the truth. And his innocence will be questioned again, this time by Lorena, a police inspector investigating a suicide case.
Alexandra Jiménez (The Zone, Toc Toc) costars as Lorena alongside Jose Coronado (Unauthorized Living, Night and Day) as Teo Aguilar.
Additional cast members include Martina Gusmán (El marginal), Juana Acosta (Velvet), Gonzalo de Castro (Killing the Father), Ana Wagener (Félix), Miki Esparbé (Drug Squad: Costa del Sol), Xavi Sáez (What the Future Holds), Anna Alarcón (Night and Day), and guest star Susi Sánchez (Presumed Guilty) as Sister Irene.
A production of Sospecha Films and Think Studio for Netflix, the eight-episode thriller is created and directed by Oriol Paulo (The Invisible Guest, Night and Day), who wrote the series alongside Jordi Vallejo (Sin identidad) and Guillem Clua (La Riera). The executive producers are Oriol Paulo, Sandra Hermida, Jesús de la Vega, Eneko Lizarraga, Belén Atienza, Laura Rubirola, and Harlan Coben.
