HBO Max announced today that it will be the exclusive home in the US to Arthur’s Law, the award-winning German dark comedy series from WarnerMedia Germany.
The acclaimed German series Arthur’s Law (Arthurs Gesetz), which has won multiple awards, including a Rockie Award for Best Non-English Comedy Series, will premiere in the US as a Max Original series this Thursday, January 7, exclusively on HBO Max.
In the dark crime comedy, unemployed Arthur Ahnepol (Jan Josef Liefers, Tatort) ekes out a bleak existence. Haggard from the strains of his unhappy marriage and bored to death, he makes a morbid plan: he wants his obnoxious wife to die. With the money from the life insurance, there will be no obstacle for him to start over with his beloved mistress.
But an unwritten law dominates the life of the unlucky fellow: every problem that Arthur solves has a far worse effect — so off he goes on an avalanche of disastrous events.
Directed by Christian Zübert (Bad Banks), the six-part series costars Martina Gedeck (Line of Separation) and Nora Tschirner (Tatort), as well as Ronald Kukulies (The Valley), Cristina do Rego (Turkish for Beginners), and Robert Gallinowski (Dogs of Berlin).
The comedy is penned by Benjamin Gutsche as head writer, along with Ceylan Yildirim and Sebastian Bleyl. The executive producers are Moritz von der Groeben from good friends Filmproduktion, Nataly Kudiabor, and WarnerMedia’s Hannes Heyelmann and Anke Greifeneder.
