Dynamic Television announced today that Acorn TV has purchased the hit Scandinavian crime series Sommerdahl Murders for the US and others of its territories.
Based on the best-selling “Dan Sommerdahl” book franchise by Anna Grue, one of the most successful crime fiction authors in Scandinavia, Sommerdahl Murders is an engaging, blue-sky take on the successful Nordic noir genre. It premiered on March 1st in Denmark on TV2 Charlie, attracting more than 500,000 viewers and garnering a 25% market share, and has been renewed for a second season.
Set in the picturesque coastline town of Helsingør in Denmark, the series follows police investigator Dan Sommerdahl (Peter Mygind, Borgen, The Kingdom) and his best friend, Detective Superintendent Fleming Torp (André Babikian, The Protectors, Those Who Kill), who solve an intriguing, perfidious murder case in each episode. Dan’s wife Marianne (Laura Drasbæk, The Killing, Unit One) contributes her expertise to their investigations as the North Sjælland Police ‘s Chief Criminal Technician. But there is more to this trio than crime-fighting.
Acorn TV, a streaming service of AMC Networks, will premiere Sommerdahl Murders in the US, Canada, and Latin America on Monday, June 29, followed by the UK, Australia, and New Zealand on Monday, July 13, 2020.
A co-production between Dynamic Television, NDF, Sequoia Global Alliance, ZDF and Danish broadcaster TV2, the series is created by Lolita Bellstar (Lulu & Leon, The Legacy), who serves as head writer alongside Lars K. Andersen (The Killing, Countdown Copenhagen). The Executive Producers are Janni Helleskov of Sequoia Global Alliance, Matthias Walther from NDF, and Jan Bennemann of Dynamic Television.
