HBO and RAI have renewed the brilliant Italian drama series, My Brilliant Friend, for a second season. Bravo!
Adapted from Italian author Elena Ferrante’s best-selling book of the same name, the first in her “Neapolitan Novels” quadrilogy, My Brilliant Friend transports viewers to post-war Naples and into the lives of Elena Greco and Raffaella ‘Lila’ Cerullo — two young girls who meet in primary school and become lifelong friends, as their neighborhood, city, and country transform around them.
The second season of the series will be My Brilliant Friend: The Story of a New Name, adapted from the second novel in Ferrante’s book series.
My Brilliant Friend (L’amica geniale) is the first non-English-language series that HBO has produced. Filmed in Italian and shown in the US with English subtitles, the program is a darling of critics and viewers alike, yours truly included.
A co-production of HBO, RAI, and TIMvision, the eight-episode first season features newcomers in the lead roles — Elisa Del Genio and Ludovica Nasti as the younger versions of Elena and Lila, and Margherita Mazzucco and Gaia Girace as the teenage versions of the characters.
Stay tuned for updates about My Brilliant Friend: The Story of a New Name.
