Netflix released a couple of first-look images today from The Protector, its first Netflix Original series from Turkey.
The Protector follows the epic adventure of Hakan, a young shopkeeper whose modern world gets turned upside down when he learns he’s connected to a secret, ancient order, tasked with protecting Istanbul.
At the story’s start, Hakan couldn’t be further from a hero — he’s just an ordinary guy in this city of 15 million, where East meets West and past meets present. Then he learns that his hometown is under threat from the mysterious, mystical Immortals, and that it’s his job to stop them. It’s a task he’s not only unprepared for, but one he resists — despite his destiny.
A super hero fantasy drama that weaves an action story with Ottoman and Turkish legend and history, The Protector stars Cagatay Ulusoy (Içerde, Medcezir, Adini Feriha Koydum) as Hakan, the last Protector in Istanbul.
The ten-episode series co-stars Okan Yalabik (Magnificent Century) as Faysal, a successful businessman that Hakan looks up to; Hazar Ergüçlü (Medcezir) as Zeynep, Hakan’s confidant; Ayca Aysin Turan (Karagül) as Leyla, Faysal’s chief of staff and Hakan’s love interest; and Mehmet Kurtulus (Cenk Batu) as Mazhar, Faysal’s right hand man. Also featuring in the drama are Hazar Ergüçlü (Medcezir), Saygin Soysal (Magnificent Century), and Burçin Terzioglu (Ezel).
Created by the award-winning Binnur Karaevli (The Eye of Istanbul), executive produced by Onur Guvenatam (Wounded Love), and directed by Can Evrenol (Baskin), The Protector is a production of Istanbul-based O3 Medya.
Netflix didn’t announced the specific premiere date for The Protector today, only that it will launch later this year, so stay tuned for updates.
