French director Luc Besson announced today that international music sensation Rihanna has joined the cast of his film new sci-fi flick Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
After having taken the world by storm with her music a decade ago, Rihanna (Annie, This Is the End, Battleship) is now set to appear in her fourth feature film, in Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
She joins the cast that includes Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns), and Clive Owen (King Arthur).
In Besson’s (Taken, The Professional, La Femme Nikita) announcement on Instagram, all he said about Rihanna’s role is it’s “a big part.”
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is adapted from The City of Shifting Waters, the first volume of the “Valerian and Laureline” graphic novel series by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres.
Filming begins in France in January 2016, and the movie is expected to premiere in summer 2017.
