Nominated for Best Comedy Series at Series Mania 2023, Call Me Dad (Kald mig far) is an uplifting, funny, and inspiring new comedy-drama series that is based on an idea by Alex Høgh Andersen (Vikings, Darkness: Those Who Kill) and Magnus Haugaard (Guilt, Baby Fever), who are both the show’s lead actors and real-life best friends.

The story centers on lifelong best friends and business partners Emil (Andersen) and Viktor (Haugaard). Emil is a non-confrontational kind of guy whose world is turned topsy-turvy when he learns that Viktor, ever the confident one of the two, is dating him mom, Helle (Ellen Hillingsø, The Bridge, Rita).

What the what?

Yes. Understandably, Emil has a tough time accepting this new reality; however, to avoid conflict with the new lovebirds, he suppresses his feelings amidst this incredibly awkward situation for him. As the relationship between his best mate and mum progresses, Emil feels increasingly uncomfortable, and his acceptance of the couple is stretched to its limit.

Not only that, Emil’s girlfriend, Carla (Roberta Reichhardt, Baby Fever, Department Q: A Conspiracy of Faith), is in a desperate state and files an unwarranted yet official work-environment complaint against Emil and Viktor’s sustainable catering company — putting the entire future of the company at risk.

Given the lack of attention, support, and understanding from his closest relationships — with his mother, his best friend, and his girlfriend — Emil feels more alone than ever.

Call Me Dad premieres in the US and Canada on Tuesday, June 4, exclusively on Viaplay partner channels, including Viaplay on Prime Channels.

Developed and written by Søren Felbo (The Orchestra, Pros and Cons) and directed by Christian Dyekjær (Guru, All I Want For Christmas), the six-part series costars Johanne Milland (The Venus Effect), Søren Sætter-Lassen (Seaside Hotel, The Killing), Peter Gantzler (The Sommerdahl Murders, Couple Trouble), Lone Rødbro (The Shift, Borgen), Bjarne Henriksen (Cry Wolf, Seaside Hotel), Lila Nobel (The Rain, Elves), and Oscar Dyekjær Giese (Honour, Chernobyl).
