Nope, that’s not a typo. Paradis City, a brand-new crime thriller series from Sweden, has premiered globally. Check it out.
Paradis City is based on the novel of the same name by Jens Lapidus, the Swedish author whose other works have been adapted into hit television series, including Snabba Cash and Top Dog. Leading the six-episode crime thriller are Julia Ragnarsson (Spring Tide, Blinded) and Alexander Abdallah (Snabba Cash, Thunder in My Heart).
Set in the near future, the series sees Sweden as polarized as ever, with state-sponsored segregation happening across the country. To protect the privileged, walls have been erected in cities to restrict the movement of people living in the most vulnerable areas, the “no-go zones,” which are governed by special laws. The largest of these is Järva, aka Paradis City, in Stockholm.
Despite the potential danger of entering Järva, the Minister of the Interior, Eva Basarto Henriksson (Louise Peterhoff, The Truth Will Out), decides to come here to hold a political rally and deliver a speech for the upcoming election. However, security measures fail when gunfire breaks out and she is abducted.
With the police being forced to retreat, SÄPO agent Fredrika (Ragnarsson) decides to takes an unorthodox strategy: She makes a deal with Emir (Abdallah), a former MMA fighter and criminal. His mission: Infiltrate Paradis City and bring Basarto Henriksson out safely — or else lose the chance to see his beloved daughter again.
The first three episodes of Paradis City are now streaming globally exclusively on Prime Video.
Costars include Felice Jankell (Snabba Cash), Lancelot Ncube (Caliphate), Sverrir Gudnason (Love Me), Jessica Liedberg (The Congregation), Kalled Mustonen (Top Dog), Richard Ulfsäter (Midnight Sun), and Rolf Lydahl (Bäckström).
