Love conquers all in the Norwegian historical drama limited series The Commoner, now available for streaming in the US and Norway.

The Commoner (Harald og Sonja) centers on the nine-year struggle of Harald, Crown Prince of Norway, to get permission to marry Sonja Haraldsen, an ordinary, non-royal commoner, from his father, King Olav V.
Starring in the historical drama are Sindre Strand Offerdal (Astronauter og filmstjerner) as Crown Prince Harald, Gina Bernhoft Gørvell (Dates in Real Life) as Sonja Haraldsen, Anders Baasmo (La Palma, Exit, Kon-Tiki) as King Olav V, and Anneke von der Lippe (Troll, The Girl from Oslo, Atlantic Crossing) as Dagny Haraldsen, Sonja’s mother.
Not since King Edward VIII abdicated the British throne in 1936 to marry twice-divorced American socialite Wallis Simpson had their been such a royal love story.
The four-part Norwegian drama follows the relationship of Harald and Sonja from their first meeting at a party in 1959 to their wedding in 1968 — depicting all of the difficulties they endured during their relationship, knowing full well they might be forced to end it one day.
The first two episodes of The Commoner are now streaming in the US exclusively on Prime Video. (The date[s] for the final two episodes are tbd.) The limited series is also available on Prime Video in Norway.
