HIP – High Intellectual Potential, the hit French series that spawned a hugely-popular new American TV series, is returning to the States with its fourth season.

Stateside viewers who have been tuning in each week to the new crime drama series High Potential have the French-Belgian series HIP – High Intellectual Potential (HPI Haut Potentiel Intellectuel) to thank, as the former is an American version of the latter. HIP has been a huge hit in France and Belgium, and its format has also been adapted into local versions in Czechia, Greece, Hungary, and Slovakia, to date.

The original stars Audrey Fleurot (Spiral, A French Village, Women at War, The Bonfire of Destiny) as single mum Morgane Alvaro, an office cleaner-turned-police consultant, owing to her observation skills, ability to remember minute details from documentary programs she’s watched, and ways of connecting the dots between seemingly unconnected things.

(Note: Spoilers follow for those who haven’t watched the third season of HIP.)

With that Season 3 cliffhanger, Season 4 finds Morgane in a bit of a pickle. She has to figure out how to tell Captain Adam Karadec (Mehdi Nebbou, Everything Is Fine, The Bureau), the detective she’s been working alongside since she got the consultant gig, that she’s pregnant — possibly by him. There’s more drama besides this in her life, including her former partner, Ludo Cédric Chevalme (Love and trouble in Paris), the father of her two younger children, coming back to live with her.

Work-wise, Morgane delves into the death of a stay-at-home mother, the murder of a crime novelist, and the crimes of a serial killer, amongst her cases — not all of which she investigates with Karadec (which might be a good thing, given the tension between them).

Renewed for a fifth season, HIP – High Intellectual Potential: Season 4 premieres in the US on Monday, February 17, exclusively on Hulu. Both the English-subtitled and English-dubbed versions will be available.

The returning cast includes Marie Denarnaud (Black Butterflies, Diva) as Commissioner Céline Hazan, the head of Lille DNPJ’s (judicial police) crime squad; Bruno Sanches (L’école de la vie, Hard), Bérangère McNeese (Ganglands, Balthazar), and Jérémy Lewin (Osmosis) as team members Gilles Vandraud, Daphné Forestier, and Timothée Guichard, respectively; and Cypriane Gardin (The Paris Murders) and Noé Vandevoorde as Morgane’s older daughter and son, Théa and Eliott, respectively.

By the way, the first season of High Potential (already renewed for a second season) is also streaming on Hulu. No Hulu? No problem. You can purchase Season 1 or individual episodes.
