HBO has set the US premiere date for the fourth and final season of the hit Italian drama My Brilliant Friend.
Based on the bestselling “Neapolitan” novels by Elena Ferrante, My Brilliant Friend (L’amica geniale) follows Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life: Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo. After meeting as children in 1950s Naples, their story goes on to cover more than 60 years, exploring the mystery of Lila, Elena’s brilliant best friend and, in a way, her worst enemy.
The final installment of the saga, titled “The Story of the Lost Child,” is based on Ferrante’s eponymous novel, the fourth in her quadrilogy. In it, the adult Elena and Lila find themselves entangled in the turmoil of Italy in the late 1980s, nearing the end of decades of political violence and social unrest. Amid motherhood, career demands, betrayals, threats, disappearances, and natural disasters, the two women once again reside in the same neighborhood.
My Brilliant Friend: Season 4, an HBO-Rai series, premieres in the US on Monday, September 9, at 9pm ET/PT, on HBO, with streaming available on Max and its digital channels, including Max on Prime Channels. New episodes of the ten-episode season will drop weekly through the series finale on November 11.
Starring in the final season are Alba Rohrwacher (La Chimera, The Miracle) as Elena Greco/Lenù and Irene Maiorino (Inspector Ricciardi, 1994) as Raffaella Cerullo/Lila.
The cast also includes Fabrizio Gifuni (Mixed by Erry) as Nino Sarratore, Stefano Dionisi (The King) as Franco Mari, Annarita Vitolo (Maternage) as Immacolata, Pier Giorgio Bellocchio (Imma Tataranni) as Pietro Airota, Daria Deflorian (The Miracle) as Adele Airota, Lino Musella (Ferrari) as Marcello Solara, Eduardo Scarpetta (The Law According to Lidia Poët) as Pasquale Peluso, Edoardo Pesce (Christian) as Michele Solara, and Sonia Bergamasco (Detective Montalbano) as Maria Rosa Airota.
A production of The Apartment, Fremantle Italy, Wildside, Fandango, and Mowe Production, in collaboration with Rai Fiction and HBO Entertainment, the series is produced by Lorenzo Mieli for Fremantle Italy, The Apartment, and Wildside, and by Domenico Procacci for Fandango. The story and screenplays are by Elena Ferrante, Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci, and Saverio Costanzo. Season 4 is directed by Laura Bispuri and executive produced by Saverio Costanzo, Paolo Sorrentino, Jennifer Schuur, Elena Recchia, Laura Paolucci, and Guido De Laurentiis.
