Peacock has set the US premiere date for historical drama series Those About to Die, starring two-time Academy Award® winner Anthony Hopkins.
Historical drama series Those About to Die is an epic story set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told — the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most: blood and sport — as told through the stories of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the explosive intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.
Based on the nonfiction book Those About to Die by Daniel Mannix, the ten-episode series’ ensemble cast includes Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs), Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones), Sara Martins (Death in Paradise), Tom Hughes (Victoria), Jojo Macari (Sex Education), Moe Hashim (Ted Lasso), Johannes Haukur Johannesson (Vikings: Valhalla), Rupert Penry-Jones (MI-5), Gabriella Pession (La Porta Rossa), Dimitri Leonidas (Riviera), Emilio Sakraya (Tribes of Europa), David Wurawa (Barbarians), Pepe Barroso (High Seas), Gonçalo Almeida (Amor Amor), Eneko Sagardoy (Patria), and Romana Maggiora Vergano (Christian).
Those About to Die premieres in the US as a ten-episode binge on Thursday, July 18, exclusively on Peacock.
The series is directed and executive produced by multi-award winners Roland Emmerich (The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day) and Marco Kreuzpaintner (Bodies, The Lazarus Project), and written by Oscar® nominee Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) as head writer.
A production of Centropolis Entertainment, Hollywood Gang Productions, and Street Entertainment for AGC Studios, Those About to Die is executive produced by Roland Emmerich, Harald Kloser, Gianni Nunnari, Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz, Miguel A. Palos Jr., Marco Kreuzpaintner, Robert Rodat, Herbert G. Kloiber, Martin Moszkowicz, Oliver Berben, Jonas Bauer, Charles Holland, and Namit Malhotra. Emmerich, Kloser and Nunnari developed the show and brought it to AGC Studios.
