Set in the 1950s, Shadow Lines (Nyrkki) follows Helena (Emmi Parviainen, Secret Lives), a student just returned to Helsinki from America, who is being recruited by her godfather to join a top-secret Finnish task force in furthering the work of its ongoing missions: to prevent two global powerhouses — the United States and the Soviet Union — from meddling in Finland’s presidential election, and to keep their homeland independent while the CIA and the KGB vie for control of the country.

But as Helena begins to discover the truth about her past, her personal and professional lives collide. With long-kept secrets and political agendas coming to a head, the team must overcome lies and distrust if they have any chance of succeeding in their missions.

Costars in the series include Olavi Uusivirta (Deadwind), Sampo Sarkola (Bordertown), Katja Küttner (Look of a Killer), Hannu-Pekka Björkman (M/S Romantic), Ivan Mathias Petersson (Gåsmamman), Jonna Järnefelt (Easy Living), and Samuel Vauramo (Secret Enemies).

Produced by Zodiak Finland for Finnish broadcaster Elisa Viihde, Shadow Lines is written by the mother-and-daughter team of Kirsti Manninen and Katri Manninen (Benner & Benner), and directed by AJ Annila (Peacemaker) and Alli Haapasalo (Force of Habit).

A second season of the multilingual (Finnish, English, and Russian) thriller is currently in development.

The premiere date of the ten-episode first season of Shadow Lines on Sundance Now in the US hasn’t been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
