Jakob Oftebro is set to play intelligence agent Carl Hamilton in a new Euro TV spy thriller series based on the “Coq Rouge” novels by Jan Guillou.
Newly-minted Robert Festival winner nominee and Berlin International Film Festival EFP Shooting Star award winner Jakob Oftebro (Below the Surface, Young and Promising, 1864, Kon-Tiki) is one of the hottest Nordic talents on the large and small screen today, so it’s no surprise that the Norwegian actor was tapped to play Carl Hamilton in Hamilton, the upcoming Euro TV series about the Swedish military intelligence officer.
If the title character sounds familiar, it’s because you might have seen the films starring Stellan Skarsgård (Code Name Coq Rouge and The Democratic Terrorist) or Mikael Persbrandt (In The Interest of the Nation and But Not If It Concerns Your Daughter — both currently streaming on MHz Choice), or the TV miniseries starring Peter Stormare.
Or you might have read one or more titles in Jan Guillou‘s best-selling, twelve-book “Cog Rouge” (aka “Hamilton”) spy novel series — one of the most well-known and the best-selling novel franchise across Scandinavia.
Whether you have or haven’t, the new international TV series, said to be the first true Scandinavian spy thriller series, in the vein of The Night Manager, will have Jakob Oftebro playing a young Carl Hamilton. The first season will follow Hamilton’s personal journey while he is on his first assignment in Europe and gets caught up in a web of lies, all of which puts his sanity to the test.
Norway’s Petter S. Rosenlund (The Heavy Water War, aka The Saboteurs) is the lead writer on the series, with Denmark’s Kasper Barfoed (Below The Surface) directing and Sweden’s Zoula Pitsiava (Blue Eyes) producing.
A production of Sweden’s Dramacorp/Pampas Studios, co-produced with Germany’s Beta Film media group and public broadcaster ZDF, Hamilton has a two-season order of ten episodes each from Swedish streaming platform C More and linear channel TV4. Filming is set to start during the second quarter of 2018 in Sweden and other locations in Europe.
Hamilton will premiere exclusively on C More in 2018, with later linear airings on TV4 and ZDF.
