Get ready for a new Scandi mystery series, stateside Euro TV fans, because Camilla Läckberg’s Fjällbacka Murders debuts tonight. Cool!
Adapted from the internationally-acclaimed, blockbuster novels by bestselling Swedish author Camilla Läckberg, the stories in Camilla Läckberg’s Fjällbacka Murders (Fjällbackamorden) revolve around successful crime novelist Erica Falck (Claudia Galli, Welcome to Sweden) and the murderous goings-on in Fjällbacka, Sweden.
Fjällbacka is a beautiful fishing village that is also Erica’s hometown. It is here that she returns with her husband Patrick Hedström (Richard Ulfsäter, Annika Bengtzon: Crime Reporter) and their three children, with the plan to enjoy a quiet life in this idyllic setting.
Except simmering beneath the serene beauty of the town are secrets and twisted desires that lie waiting to erupt into murder.
In tonight’s episode, The Fjällbacka Murders: The Sea Gives, the Sea Takes (Fjällbackamorden: Havet ger, havet tar), Erica finds Fjällbacka photographer Stigge (Eivin Dahlgren, When Darkness Falls) murdered in his studio, and she can’t help but take interest in the investigation into his death.
As Patrick and his colleagues at the Fjällbacka Police begin to question whether or not Stigge was the sweet person he appeared to be, Erica learns from her mother-in-law Kristina (Eva Fritjofson, The Sandhamn Murders) that the latter is one amongst many in the neighborhood that Stigge had blackmailed.
So Erica begins her own investigation into Stigge’s past, and flashbacks to the 1960s reveal how the young Stigge (Kristoffer Berglund, The Hundred Code) decided to cover up a murder in order to win the love of his life.
The Fjällbacka Murders: The Sea Gives, the Sea Takes, shown in Swedish with English subtitles, premieres tonight, 26 April 2015, at 10:30 PM ET, following the debuts of Kabul Kitchen and A French Village, on MHz Worldview and MHz Worldview Live.
Other feature-length episodes in the Fjällbacka Murders series will be available on MHz Choice, MHz’s new subscription video-on-demand service, beginning 3 May 2015.
