Today Netflix released the official teaser for its second Danish Original series, Equinox, and announced the series’ global premiere date.
Based on the acclaimed podcast Equinox 1985 by Tea Lindeburg, Equinox will launch worldwide on December 30, 2020, exclusively on Netflix.
Equinox is a character-driven supernatural mystery thriller about a young woman named Astrid (Danica Curcic, The Chestnut Man, Warrior, Nobel), who is very affected by the unexplainable disappearance of her sister and her school class in 1999. Set in Denmark, the six-part series swipes back and forth between 1999, when it all started, and the present day.
A class of graduating students inexplicably disappears without a trace in 1999. Nine-year-old Astrid, the sister of one of the missing students, becomes traumatized and plagued by horrific visions after her sister’s disappearance. Twenty-one years later, Astrid is the host of a late-night radio show when, all of a sudden, her nightmares reappear. When one of the three survivors from 1999 contacts her through her show and mysteriously dies soon thereafter, Astrid is determined to find out what happened to her sister and the class, only to discover a dark and unsettling truth that involves her in ways she never imagined.
Costars include Viola Martinsen (When the Dust Settles), Hanne Hedelund (Borgen), Lars Brygmann (Dicte), Karoline Hamm (The Sommerdahl Murders), Fanny Leander Bornedal (The Bridge), August Carter (Little Murders), Ask Emil Mossberg Truelsen (Lukas and the Aspies), and Alexandre Willaume (Rita).
Produced by Apple Tree Productions (The Killing, The Bridge), the series is created and written by Tea Lindeburg, produced by Dorthe Riis Lauridsen, and executive produced by Piv Bernth. Søren Balle (Follow the Money) is the lead director.
