Well, I didn’t see that ending coming, and now that I have, I wish there were a third season of The Court. Alas, no.

That is, no to a third season in the same format as the first two, since certain characters in The Court (Réttur) appear in Case (also Réttur), as well. But that’s for another article.

Today’s is about Season 2 of The Court.

You may recall that, in Season 1, Logi Traustason (Magnús Jónsson, Case, Cover Story), a brash and brilliant attorney and a convicted killer in Reykjavik, joined the law firm owned by Brynhildur (Jóhanna Vigdís Arnardóttir, Case, Every Color of the Sea is Cold) and Hörður (Víkingur Kristjánsson, Prisoners, World’s End) on a two-month trial basis (couldn’t resist). The deal was that if he doubled business for them in that time frame, they would make him a full and equal partner.

He did, and they did.

One of the arcs in the first season — Logi’s inability to remember anything about a young man’s death, for which Logi was charged with manslaughter and served four years in prison — carries into the second, which opens where the Season 1 cliffhanger left off. (Crikey!) But then Logi recalls a detail about that fateful event from his youth, and this kick-starts his personal investigation into what really happened.

There are two other arcs in Season 2. One revolves a hardened criminal that Logi represents — a truly vile and violent thug whose nefarious acts impact Logi’s and Brynhildur’s lives. Another centers on Hörður and his burgeoning relationship with Arna (Katla M. Þorgeirsdóttir, Trapped), an ambitious attorney who wants the new spot at the firm. (Hmm…)

Logi’s former colleague, Magnús (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Cover Story), wants that spot, too, so to prove himself he does research work for Logi, Brynhildur, and Hörður. What he uncovers helps their cases, and in another situation saves Brynhildur’s butt.

Among the firm’s clients this season are a hacker, the owner of a pharmacy in Logi’s hometown, a young pregnant woman with Down Syndrome, and a prison inmate. (The dialogue in the second courtroom scene of the prisoner’s story created horrific visuals, and I didn’t realize I’d been holding my breath until I heard myself exhale.)

That last bit goes for the final scene, too, but not because of anything anyone says.

The trailer below is from Season 1.

Featuring in the binge-worthy second season are Unnur Ösp Stefánsdóttir (Prisoners), Sveinn Geirsson (The Lava Field), and Sara Dögg Ásgeirsdóttir (Cover Story).

The Court: Season 2 is currently streaming in the US on Walter Presents and the Walter Presents channel on Amazon (the latter for existing Prime Video subscribers only). Viewers in the UK can watch it on All 4, where it’s under the Walter Presents collection.
