In the series, the subglacial volcano Katla has been erupting constantly for a year, disrupting the peace and tranquility in the small town of Vik.

Grima (Guðrún Ýr Eyfjörð, Flýg Upp x Varlega), one of the town’s residents, has been searching for her sister since she disappeared the day after the eruption started, but Grima’s hope of ever finding her is starting to fade.

Meanwhile, residents of the surrounding area begin to have visits from unexpected guests, and mysterious elements, deeply frozen in the glacier from prehistoric times, start to emerge from the melting ice — and cause consequences no one could have foreseen.

The cast includes Íris Tanja Flygenring (Prisoners), Ingvar Sigurðsson (Trapped), Aliette Opheim (Thicker than Water), Þorsteinn Bachmann (Cover Story), Sólveig Arnarsdóttir (The Lava Field), Birgitta Birgisdóttir (The Valhalla Murders), Helga Braga Jónsdóttir (The Court), Guðrún Gísladóttir (Stella Blómkvist), Aldís Amah Hamilton (The Valhalla Murders), Björn Ingi Hilmarsson (The Cliff), Baltasar Breki Samper (Trapped), Valter Skarsgård (Black Lake), Haraldur Ari Stefánsson (Alma), and Björn Thors (The Valhalla Murders).

A production of RVK Studios, Katla is created and written by multiple-awards winner Baltasar Kormákur (Trapped, Everest) along with Sigurjón Kjartansson (Case), Davíð Már Stefánsson (Rabbits), and Lilja Sigurðardóttir. It is directed by Kormákur, Börkur Sigþórsson (Trapped), and Thora Hilmarsdottir (The Valhalla Murders).

Katla, a Netflix Original series, premieres globally on Thursday, June 17, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
